Despite the role played by African-Americans in the history of Page County, Virginia through 1865, the stories of these people have been curiously absent for far too long. Thus, this blog will serve as a vessel for filling a void in memory; a void in the memory of a county and the history of that county.

I found this blog when I searched for Frank Veney. I have recently started the Shenandoah Valley Black Heritage Project and am very interested in Page County’s history. I would love to hear more stories and get more history from Page County for my Project. I have been fascinated with the Bethany Veney narrative. I look forward to spending time in Page County this summer – learning more.

I have just started exploring the Valley USCT. I am putting together a list etc of soldiers from Rockingham in hopes it will be used in the HRHS Civil War exhibit. In a huge way Honoring some of them for the first time. Any guidance to resources etc would be greatly appreciated. I am/have referenced your blog on our website. It is so great!
Robert, would you happen to know anything about the slaves who lived on Fort Philip Long near Stanley, Page County Virginia? The slave quarters still stands on the property.
